Master of the Wet Cloths. Ca. 1170. Granite

The slight flexion in one of his legs causes tension in his clothes and, with it, the classic folds attached to the anatomy that have given name to its author, the Master of the Wet Cloths.
He would be a great sculptor, representative of the last Compostela Romanesque who was going to end up being replaced by the innovative art of Master Mateo. Both characters and their different artistic conceptions would coincide in the works of the Cathedral of Santiago around 1170, as evidenced in some decorative elements of the Crypt of the Portico of Glory and in a series of sculptures like this one, recovered at different times in the surroundings of the western end of the cathedral.
