Reliquary bust of Santa Florina
Description
Santiago de Compostela, Jorge Cedeira the Younger, 1594. Silver, gilded silver and enamels
In 1543, the Compostela Archbishop Gaspar de Ávalos accompanied King Charles I on his journey through Italy and Germany to pursue important artistic objects and relics, including those of Saint Florina, virgin and martyr. Years later, the cathedral gave the silversmith Jorge Cedeira the Younger the task to create this reliquary bust, which was repaired after the damage caused by the fire in the Chapel of the Relics in 1921 by the Compostela silversmith Ricardo Martínez.
